As long as you are using a relaxation technique which is effective for you and not overly complicated or time-consuming, it is fine for our purposes. However, as a preparation for various Reintegration techniques, our recommendation would be the following approach:
- Sit up straight, eyes closed. If you are lying on a bed, open your eyes in order to not fall asleep. Focus on your breath. Slowly and deeply inhale through your nose, feeling the breath as it moves down to your abdomen. Reverse the process as you exhale through your mouth. Do this for 1 or 2 minutes.
- Mentally scan your body. Notice how your body feels, starting at your toes and going up to your head, including face. Become aware of all places and body parts in which you feel tension, together with accompanying sensations. For every tense place pay close attention to your I-feeling (or Temporary I) which is experiencing that sensation and do the Dissolving the Temporary I (DTI) technique described previously.
